About MoveToOwn
Helping renters plan the move to ownership with clear eyes.
MoveToOwn publishes practical, plain-English guides for renters who are thinking about buying a home, whether that is next year or somewhere further down the road.

Our mission
Why we exist
Deciding whether and when to buy a home is one of the largest financial choices most people make. Yet much of the information renters find is written to sell something: a loan, a listing, a service. That makes it hard to know which advice is meant for you and which is meant for the person selling.
MoveToOwn exists to fill the gap before all of that. Our goal is to help renters understand the trade-offs, prepare their finances, and make a decision they feel good about, including the decision to keep renting for now. We think a well-informed renter is better off than a rushed buyer.
What we cover

Our guides follow the path most renters take, from the first question to the first night in a new home.

What we do not do
- We do not make loans, sell insurance, list homes or broker transactions.
- We are not a government agency, and we are not affiliated with any of the public resources we link to.
- We do not give personal financial, legal, tax or insurance advice, and we cannot tell you whether you will qualify for a loan or program.
Editorial standards
How we write
Every guide on MoveToOwn is held to the same standards.
- Independence. Our guides do not recommend specific lenders, agents, insurers or products, and no company pays to appear in them.
- Accuracy over excitement. We do not promise outcomes, approvals or savings. Where something depends on your situation, your state or your lender, we say so.
- Primary sources. When a guide touches a law or a government program, we check it against official public sources and link to them so you can read further.
- No invented evidence. We do not publish made-up statistics, quotes or success stories. Rules of thumb are labeled as rules of thumb.
- Plain language. We explain terms such as escrow, mortgage insurance and debt-to-income ratio the first time they appear, and we write for a smart reader who is new to the subject.
Keeping current
How guides are reviewed
Housing and lending rules change, so a guide is never finished.
- Before a guide is published, its factual statements are checked against official public sources.
- Each guide shows a "Last reviewed" date near the top, so you can see how recently it was checked.
- We review every guide at least once a year, and sooner when a rule or program it describes changes.
- When a reader reports an error, we look into it promptly. If we confirm a mistake, we correct the guide and update its review date.
